How I have become a trader and you can, too

MatthiasK is a new member of the Tradimo Team. We have interviewed him and asked him about his tasks and his trading. How has he started and what does he think about trading today?

How have you started your trading career?

At the moment I am able to live from my trading income and hope to continue doing so moving forward.

The story starts a little bit sadly, because I have inherited my trading capital when my grandfather died. He really tried to save and invest every penny and so I wanted to keep up this tradition. When I was 9 years old I told my adults that I’d be as rich as Bill Gates by the time I turned 20. To be honest, I unfortunately did not make it.

I started around 2010 to manage my own money, starting with bank-issued products like bonds tied to stocks with knock-out certificates. When interest rates starting falling, I thought: "5 % p.a.? There must be a way to earn more." Via Pokerstrategy I found Tradimo and registered in 2012. I started to learn and to devote myself to this topic intensively and I still do to this day.

At the moment I am able to live from my trading income and I hope I can do this for the longer term.

What has helped you the most to become a better trader?

I have invested much into my education and still do this today. I had many coachings.

I have invested much into my education and still do this today. I think new input is important for one’s own trading and opens you up for another view to other than your own trading style. In addition, I want to diversify my approaches for trading.

Also the tradimo community helped me a lot and the fact that I established personal contact to many users whom I wanted to know more about. I have visited many tradimo events like in Aschaffenburg or Frankfurt. I met many new people there and was able to talk to them and got new insights. You are only going to recognise how far you are in your trading education when you talk to people who made it. Even today I am interested in different trading styles and want to understand how they work.

When you are saying "invested", you do not only mean time, do you?

I think I really made nearly every mistake a trader can do. Starting with having to high leverage and ending with a super EA using some martingale strategy.

No, I am also talking about money and I can say that not everything is what it seems in the trading education market, but I don’t want to pull anyone through the mud here. For example, I invested about 4,000 Euro in a coaching only to recognise that this education isn’t the right one for me, because it does not fit my expectations. But anyways I was able to learn from some aspects of it and realised what I don’t want to do in future.

I think I really made nearly every mistake a trader can do. Starting with having to high leverage and ending with a super EA using some martingale strategy. You recognise really fast that there is much garbage on the market, when you come back home and your EA killed a 10,000 Euro account. I also gained some experience with social trading but also not a really good one . In the end, I learned a lot from all of these and I decided that I should be the only one who is trading my capital. When you can manage to lose a middle five-digit amount and get back up, then you can manage everything in trading.

My motto today is a modified saying: "Never trust an equity curve you haven’t faked yourself."

What do you mean by saying beginner aren’t able to differentiate between valuable information and bad information?

I often hear that people can get content for free on the internet. This is when I start to grin.

In the web you see an ad for content on every corner. One time it is the father who managed to make two million out of nothing and another time the trader who gains 300% every year. All of these things look really good, but this is not the reality.

I often hear that people can get content for free on the internet. This is when I start to grin. Trading is a business and no serious trader is giving away all of his knowledge for free. Behind every trading strategy stands much time, money and effort. Too many people do not honour this. For sure you can get a holy grail breakout strategy on every website, but whether I know the statistics for drawdowns or the relation between losers and winners (just to mention two things here) makes a big difference. Afterwards everybody is wondering why they killed their account.

I would say I am talking very straight forward and I am also doing this in the forum. In my opinion 90% of all content is garbage and can’t help you. Instead they suggest you that you can earn much money without working hard.

Some weeks ago I had a conversation and I asked what the preferences the person has in trading. And the answer was "Doesn’t matter as long as it is a winning strategy." I think this reflects the most common approach. He who is not willing to invest in his education won’t win anything in the end.

How would you start trading today if you had to start over again?

In the end it is important to create the framework for the own trading.

Of course it sounds weird when I say I would try to get a personal learning plan and mentor, because I am working in the premium service, but in the end it is important to create the framework for the own trading. It is all about having a structure and to figure these things out it is useful to have someone who asks you in a critical way. This is how you learn. So I would go for the Tradimo premium service in all honesty.

It is important to take your time. Time to learn and time till you really get started with trading. If someone asks me how to start with trading I would say to start with a saving plan (For me saving plans also count as). How this looks like exactly needs to be discussed in detail. This is how you can start building your capital for your first trading account. During this time you can learn and try while your account is growing. Too many people think that you need to make about 1,000 trades per day to earn money, but this is wrong.

I am convinced by our premium service, because we all learned it the hard way and it is important to be honest to the people. I think one of our tasks is it to create awareness that nothing just comes to you the easy way.

What are your tasks at Tradimo?

Together with Matthias D. aka nleeson111, I am responsible for our tradimo premium service. I am in charge of helping our premium members, plan activities like webinars, events, the development of our course offering and marketing.

Regarding to my own experience and the experience of the whole tradimo team: Many new members start learning on their own and often feel overwhelmed fast from the flood of information. Others sometimes jump from strategy to strategy and so do not get the results they estimated. Imagine it like in a gym. You start to train, make your first exercises and you start getting fitter but the body of your dreams keeps being far away. This often is due to wrong nutrition or wrong intensity. Sometimes you have a lack of motivation because you don’t know if you are doing your exercises wrong or not. Mostly this is the time when you get a coach and work out your personal training plan. This is what we were thinking about when we developed the tradimo premium service: Show our members a structured way for success which uses tradimo’s courses and in addition a more intensive support through webinars and premium support.

You need to imagine our tradimo premium service as following: First our premium members get a questionnaire regarding their actual knowledge. Based on these answers, we create a personalised learning plan for the first three months. We evaluate in regular intervals how the member is getting on with his learning and adapt the plan. In addition to our mail support we also offer webinars where we as coaches answer questions to several topics and prepare topics regarding trading. We are working on new webinars which we want to launch soon. In our opinion, there is a high value in combining interaction and studying and we want to offer webinars on a wide range of topics.

How did you join the tradimo team?

I met Sebastian in 2013 in Aschaffenburg and we liked each other from the beginning. Since this event I think I can call him a very good friend of mine. We had contact through events and skyped many times when we were walking about our ideas and our trading. In the last years, we often talked about the future and now it has just happend that I can contribute my part.

.

I really enjoy being a part of this community which brought me to trading and it is much fun for me.

What do you like most on trading?

To be honest I love making money with money. I can’t even explain why it attracts me. It just is a part of myself. I love talking about it, I love learning about it and I really love doing it.

What do you like most about tradimo?

I really like the idea behind tradimo. It doesn’t matter to whom you are talking, the interest in personal finance is super high and I really enjoy being a part of this project.

I really like the idea behind tradimo. It doesn’t matter to whom you are talking, the interest in personal finance is super high and I really enjoy being a part of this project. I think it is important that tradimo takes the role to clarify and convey a real image about trading. I am able to talk to people from all parts of the world and every single one in this team is ambitioned and motivated to get things done.

I hope in the future we are able to educate more traders and lead them into the financial market. I think we’ve made a huge step into this direction in the last month.
